Pumping

Regular pumping is the key to a septic system being trouble free.  See our Scheduling page for the three types of scheduling needs you could have. In general, if you don't know when it was last pumped, it's time! Otherwise, you should be on a three-year cycle.

Did you grow up with an outhouse? It was probably a little ways away from the yard so you could give back to mother nature directly! It processed wastes by being kind of a compost heap. You could let the ground be a sort of septic tank because it mostly kept to itself. It wasn't connected to the water in the house so there was not much "flow".

In order to keep your modern home and property safe and hygienic, you have to process all the solids and liquids that go down the drains and toilets because it's more than nature can handle at one time.

Septic Tanks:

We pump these!

If you live outside of city sewage boundaries, you probably have a septic tank. There are usually no moving parts.

The drains and toilets in your house are like mouths that you feed with waste. Then the pipes swallow everything and it lands in the belly - which is the septic tank. That is where your house digests things. Just like in your own gut, there are good bacteria in the tank that eat the waste and get it one step closer to being ready for nature to deal with. (In a perfect world, that would be pure water). Circle of life.

The bacteria in the tank can only eat so much before they get behind.  This naturally causes buildup and is why you have to regularly pump the tank.

Home Aeration Units:

We pump these!

Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, your property can't have a septic tank. You have to have your very own mini wastewater treatment facility so it can process your waste more efficiently than a septic tank. Aeration means "adding air". It's an extra way that a system can help break down wastes on their way to being safe to go back to nature. There are moving electric parts that add air bubbles to help keep the process going. You know, like champagne. ;-) You will have an electrical box somewhere and usually an alarm for certain issues.

Just like with septic tanks, it is natural for there to be some buildup that requires regular pumping. Note: We pump these, but we don't do maintenance on them. An installer should be providing that.
